Facebook Is Not the Only One Investing in the Metaverse
The Metaverse is a digital world free of everyday physical constraints. It allows people to interact anywhere, attend gatherings, create art and amass fortunes. This new virtual world is made possible through the technology known as cryptocurrency. This concept is being used to power the Metaverse economy. To take advantage of these possibilities, users will need to have cryptocurrency in their wallets.
The company has already been facing a lot of criticism for its policies and practices, particularly with regards to security and privacy. It has also faced issues regarding fake news and hate speech. However, it has reiterated that it is committed to building the Metaverse responsibly and has committed to open collaboration with external firms. However, some in the crypto community are still skeptical of Facebook’s intentions. One crypto community member, Yat Siu, has branded Facebook a “threat” to the Metaverse.
Facebook is not the only company investing in this technology. Boeing, for instance, has stakes in it and is planning to use it to expand its production capabilities. The company is also developing a digital environment for its employees to collaborate. Microsoft, which is Facebook’s biggest competitor, is also developing a software platform for collaborative work in the Metaverse. One of its recent applications, Mesh for Microsoft Teams, allows users to collaborate in a 3D holographic environment. Another application is Holoportation, which allows users to access this digital environment through a VR headset.
Another notable company is The Sandbox. Its development team has partnered with gaming and tech giants such as Atari. Its Metaverse is powered by the Ethereum blockchain, which offers top-quality security, but also high gas fees. It has an editor that allows developers to create animations and other virtual environments.
