Facebook and the Metaverse
The Metaverse is a virtual world that lets people interact with each other in a variety of ways. According to Citi GPS, the metaverse is expected to have five billion users by 2030. Despite its popularity, there are many dark sides to this virtual world, including the lack of regulation, high volatility of most cryptocurrencies, and money laundering. Despite these challenges, big firms are already investing in this space and have established data privacy and trust policies.
The metaverse is not real yet, but the CEO of Meta believes that the metaverse is happening. While the company isn’t building the metaverse itself, it is developing the necessary technology to allow people to access it. Ultimately, there will be many companies involved in the metaverse, but Meta is putting itself on the forefront. The company is working with chip makers like Nvidia and gaming companies like Roblox, and is not the sole player.
Facebook recently rebranded itself as Meta. This move signals the company’s future focus on virtual reality and augmented reality. Facebook has also banned the sale of blockchain-based games from Steam, but that move hasn’t stopped developers from creating and promoting them. Moreover, it’s hoped that the future of Facebook will be built on the metaverse. As a result, many decentralized games will be included in this new metaverse.
