Investing in the Metaverse
With the rise of decentralized virtual worlds, there has been an increase in interest in Metaverse. While this is not the only company involved in the metaverse, a number of other investors are making their mark. For example, Index Ventures, a European private equity fund, has backed Metaverse and other blockchain startups. The firm focuses on streaming platforms and has made several notable investments in the space. Animoca Brands, a company that is also a major shareholder in CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot creator Dapper Labs, has invested in Metaverse.
While the Metaverse concept is still somewhat nebulous, its grand ambitions are clear. It could be a virtual gym with virtual meeting rooms. It could even be used to promote real estate. However, there are several key differences between virtual worlds and reality. In the first place, augmented reality is a type of virtual world where sensory stimuli are layered onto real-world scenes. It is accessible with smartphones and requires a headset device.
Similarly, the virtual economy in the metaverse requires some kind of means of payment. It is difficult to transact in virtual worlds with traditional paper currency. This is where cryptocurrencies come into play. With the rebranding of Facebook as Meta, metaverse coins are now more valuable than ever. In fact, it is possible that owning real estate in the metaverse will become an increasingly lucrative investment in the future. And if you’re considering a long-term investment in cryptocurrency, it’s probably a good idea to get involved with this emerging metaverse.
