The Metaverse is a virtual world in which people can interact with one another using avatars created through artificial intelligence. Microsoft recently announced that it plans to build its own metaverse. Users of Teams will soon be able to visit these virtual worlds as early as 2022. This virtual world will be comprised of hardware and software components, including data centers and blockchain technology. Microsoft has a vested interest in the Metaverse, and they want to take full advantage of it.
The virtual world has attracted a lot of investors, with Citi GPS estimating that there could be 5 billion users by 2030. However, it also has its fair share of dark sides, including regulatory uncertainty, money laundering, counterfeit NFTs, and trading scams. With the high volatility of most cryptocurrencies, the Metaverse is a good investment option for big firms. Because of their budget, they have an advantage over startups. They can also trust their data.
In the meantime, Facebook has been acquiring virtual land and putting its own spin on it. Some of the most popular metaverse tokens have gained a boost from this news. For instance, 25% of UFO gaming’s token, the Sandbox (SAND) token, and the Axie Infinity token AXS are reportedly getting a boost from the Facebook news. But the biggest threat to the Metaverse may be Facebook itself. Facebook has been plagued by controversy for spreading false information and division. Considering these factors, Facebook could pose a major threat to a community-run Metaverse.
