Will Facebook and Microsoft Acquire NFT Land in the Metaverse?
If you’re interested in crypto, you’ve probably heard about the Metaverse. Facebook and Microsoft have both announced that they’ll be acquiring virtual land. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently teased that he plans to support NFTs in the future, and announced that the company would invest $10 billion in Metaverse this year. Similarly, other prominent figures in the crypto space have expressed similar views. One such figure is Raoul Pal, a former hedge fund manager who’s become an outspoken crypto enthusiast.
The metaverse has been gaining popularity with blockchain-based gaming apps. Users can build virtual properties on the land and then play to earn money. Popular metaverses include Decentraland, Axie Infinity, and SecondLive, which are all built on the Ethereum blockchain. Axies, which are non-fungible tokens, can be reconstructed from over 500 different body parts. They can breed up to seven times and sell off their offspring on the gaming platform.
The concept of the metaverse is also changing the way we experience virtual reality. While early versions of virtual reality platforms focused on gaming like Minecraft, new metaverses are developing in a more social way. In one popular metaverse, players can interact with AI avatars and form relationships. Eventually, the metaverse will be a social platform that allows players to sell items they create in game to other users for cryptocurrency. Another notable example is the Sensorium Galaxy, which has massive musical offerings curated by world-famous artists. It’s possible that the metaverse will also offer additional content centers, such as a planet for meditation and self-actualization.
