The Metaverse – The Next Chapter of the Internet
The Metaverse is a virtual world that is believed to be the next chapter of the internet. People are excited about the potential for immersive experiences, social interaction and even real-world commerce. But what is it exactly, and how will it change our lives?
A metaverse is basically a 3D version of the internet. People can teleport to different virtual worlds and participate in various activities within these worlds, such as gaming, virtual shopping, and social interaction. This is also known as augmented reality or virtual reality, depending on the type of headset being used.
Most of the time, when you hear someone talk about Metaverse, it’s in connection with video games such as Horizon Worlds or VRChat, where you can create your own avatar and interact with other users in a digital setting. Other examples are ethereum-based virtual worlds such as The Sandbox or Decentraland, where you can purchase non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that act as a currency for the platform.
Many of these platforms and games are getting closer to what a metaverse would look like. That’s because they’re trying to make the digital experience more life-like through synthetic content and 3D avatars that can mimic human movements.
What’s interesting is that these types of games are drawing in people and businesses because they offer a level playing field where people can participate regardless of their current skill set or financial status. This is a big reason why the metaverse has sparked so much interest, especially now that Mark Zuckerberg has talked about it publicly.
