Facebook’s Metaverse Is Just Getting Started

A few decades ago, Neal Stephenson first coined the term “Metaverse” to describe a shared virtual world. In this virtual world, users can create avatars and purchase land, buildings, and other objects with cryptocurrency. These assets can be used to participate in events and meet friends. People can also purchase goods and services. Metaverse can also be used for events, as people can buy and sell goods and services in this environment.

Many of the world’s biggest companies have jumped on the metaverse bandwagon, including Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Epic Games. Even VISA has invested in the tech, purchasing its first NFT for $150,000, and many other big brands are getting in on the act. Gucci, the fashion brand, partnered with the online game creation platform Roblox to sell NFTs, and Coca-Cola has sold digital tokens that allow people to create virtual characters in the metaverse.

However, some experts believe that the metaverse is only getting started and has enormous potential. For example, Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, believes that the metaverse will open up a massive creative economy. He also highlighted Meta’s role in accelerating the development of fundamental technologies. The company is developing social platforms, creative tools, and weaving metaverse technologies into traditional social media apps. This means that metaverse is just beginning to find its footing in the online world.

In addition to the virtual games, developers have begun building the metaverse itself. Currently, Horizon has an App Store, but it is a working product in the future. Microsoft has also acquired top game firms, resulting in games like Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls. One game that exemplifies the creator economy is Minecraft. Microsoft is also developing a new chat and conferencing app, called Microsoft Teams, that could pave the way for an immersive future workforce communication.
