A Metaverse is a virtual world independent of our physical one. It has its own digital economy, and it’s a place where people can socialize and interact in a seemingly unlimited variety of experiences.
It is a utopian idea that Mark Zuckerberg is championing as he attempts to create the next version of the internet. The concept is based on the cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, but it also draws from real-world developments like spatial computing and blockchain technology.
Unlike isolated virtual reality experiences, the Metaverse will be a living ecosystem that’s supported by a full infrastructure of hardware devices, back-end engines and software development. Edge computing will power this fusion of physical and virtual realities to make it a seamless experience.

The key to building a successful Metaverse is monetizing it efficiently. That’s where native cryptocurrencies come in, as they facilitate trustless and secure payment processing without the need for centralized oversight.
