How Brands Are Moving Into the Metaverse
The Metaverse is a speculative iteration of the internet that incorporates elements of virtual reality and augmented reality. It’s also an emerging market that companies are jumping in with both feet.
Identify and understand the key concepts involved in the metaverse, such as cryptocurrencies and decentralized autonomous organizations; determine their relevance to your company; and follow the progression of the technology. Consider cybersecurity, privacy rights, regulatory compliance and brand reputation in your approach to the metaverse.
Understand the potential benefits and challenges of the metaverse; and develop a strategy that takes into account how to build a thriving and sustainable business in a future where the digital world is increasingly integrated with the physical. Prepare for a shift from 2-D to 3-D experiences; address the complexities of data portability and governance; and consider the role of blockchain and AI in automating identity, assets, transactions and contracts.
Make a plan for integrating your existing services into the metaverse; and ensure that the underlying infrastructure is secure, scalable and resilient. Take into consideration edge computing, which enables capturing, storing and processing data locally, rather than in the cloud, to improve bandwidth and latency issues.
Know your users; and engage them early in the transition to the metaverse. Focus on trust among consumers, shareholders, regulators and other stakeholders.
Generation Z is the first to grow up with a smartphone, which means they’re already familiar with gaming and virtual reality. And 65% of Gen Zers spend money on virtual items within games, so brands should start thinking about how to use this new space for their benefit.
