Facebook’s New Metaverse
In his recent announcement about the future of the internet, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg outlined his company’s plans for the Metaverse. He said that the new virtual world would open up new vistas of possibilities and provide space for individuals to do whatever they want to do. Metaverse users would be able to work, play, shop, and learn new ideas, all while being virtually in another place. This virtual space would literally be the “next Internet” and puts the entire physical world at their fingertips.
The concept of the Metaverse has been a hot topic in recent months, and has been popularized by many popular video games such as Fortnite and the upcoming Ready Player One. While the concept of virtual reality is not entirely new, the recent acquisition of Facebook by Alphabet has given it a major boost. Facebook has been investing in virtual reality and augmented reality, and Zuckerberg calls his company a “metaverse company.”
The currency within the Metaverse will allow users to exchange virtual goods among different games and services. It will work similarly to proprietary currencies within online games like Roblox’s Robux. Its value would be distributed by the platform’s NFTs. Furthermore, if a player is able to buy and sell items on the Metaverse, they will receive ENJ. The ENJ token has a limited supply and is used as a platform wallet.
