Facebook’s Metaverse Could Legitimize Cryptocurrencies
The Metaverse is a virtual world created on the Ethereum blockchain, where users can earn money or even own virtual land. Popular metaverses include SecondLive, Axie Infinity, and Decentraland. These are built on the Ethereum blockchain and use the concept of non-fungible tokens called Axies. Axies are the units of currency on the Metaverse, and they can be bred multiple times with other Axies. The offspring can then be sold on the gaming platform.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already expressed interest in the Metaverse, and has announced a major initiative to build a Metaverse in Europe. This initiative is particularly interesting in terms of payments, as it could legitimize cryptocurrencies. For example, Ethereum could become the structural backbone of the Metaverse, allowing it to function as an online payment system.
In the near future, blockchain-based metaverse systems may be developed, allowing users to interact with virtual environments through augmented reality. Until then, these systems are still a work in progress. While there is no monopoly or rigid structure yet, it is important to research the benefits of investing in these systems before you invest.
In a metaverse, people inhabit their own space and interact with others through an online avatar. The avatar allows users to move, speak, and take action. There are also virtual properties in the metaverse, and users can sell these for real world values or exchange them for other currencies. They can also exchange virtual property for non-fungible tokens, which can be used for transactions.
