The Metaverse – A Business Model For the Future
Metaverse is a universe of limitless, interconnected virtual communities where people can socialize, collaborate, and have fun using augmented reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, smartphones, and other technologies.
It will enable users to connect with people from all over the world and will offer a wide variety of immersive experiences that are currently impossible to enjoy in real life.
The idea of a virtual reality-based internet, or the “metaverse,” has been around since Neal Stephenson wrote Snow Crash in 1992. A number of other science fiction books and movies have also included a metaverse-like system, including Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One.
There are a variety of different interpretations of the metaverse, but it’s generally understood to be a world that’s accessible to people through augmented reality headsets and other technology. It’s a world that has its own rules, governed by jurisdictions around the globe.
Some companies are embracing the metaverse as a way to build a new business model for the future, and some have been experimenting with ways to make a profit from it. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is a prominent example of this.
He’s focusing on building the hardware that makes it possible to interact with the virtual reality world. But he’s also looking at ways to generate revenue through other areas, like ad sales.
The biggest challenge is getting people to wear the headsets for long periods of time. That’s because the disconnection from the physical world isn’t easy for most people to deal with. That’s where augmented reality, which digitally enhances what we see in the physical world in real time, might be able to provide a solution.
