Facebook and the Metaverse
The Metaverse is an online space in which people interact with each other. They move, talk, and take action without any restrictions or boundaries. They can also buy, sell, and trade virtual property. This virtual space is similar to the real world, but a lot more interactive. Essentially, the Metaverse is an Internet of the mind.
To date, the Metaverse has been hosted by Zoom, a company that is known for hosting games like Roblox. The company has been hosting the Metaverse for two years. Its CEO Robby Yung, the CEO of Animoca Brands, is the company’s biggest shareholder and also owns the popular CryptoKitties. He is also a major shareholder of Dapper Labs, the creators of NBA Top Shot.
Facebook has also announced plans to launch a series of Metaverse units. These units will include its VR hardware Cambria and its Spark AR software. The Facebook metaverse will support NFTs, which are crucial for metaverses. Using NFTs, users can easily establish digital ownership over items in the metaverse. This allows for a wider variety of commercial opportunities.
Mark Zuckerberg has been particularly active in the Metaverse over the last seven days. He has turned his Facebook page into a “press release distribution center,” and posted personalized messages. This shows his passion for the Metaverse.
