The Metaverse and Facebook
The Metaverse is a blockchain-based virtual reality (VR) platform. It allows users to purchase, sell, and develop real estate and resources. In-game cryptocurrency is called MANA and can be traded for real-world value or converted to other currencies. However, investors should be careful when investing in Metaverse cryptos. These currencies are still relatively new and can be volatile. Their small user bases also make them susceptible to sudden crashes.
Companies like Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Epic Games are experimenting with the Metaverse to find out how it can benefit their users. VISA is also involved in the Metaverse, having purchased the first NFT for $150,000 in 2014. Popular brands like Coca-Cola and Gucci have also joined in on the metaverse trend, collaborating with game creation platforms such as Roblox and selling digital accessories that can be used in the Metaverse.
Zuckerberg, a prominent figure in the Facebook community, has called the Metaverse the “next chapter of the Internet.” He argues that this new platform will make people’s lives easier and create new spaces where they can do whatever they want. In the Metaverse, people can gather with other people to work, shop, or explore new ideas. It is a completely new and uncharted territory for many.
While the Metaverse has the potential to unlock countless possibilities, the real promise will be in the users’ hands. A user can turn his digital assets into a virtual asset, use them in play-to-earn games, or even invest in non-fungible tokens. But before all of this can happen, a blockchain is needed to secure, confirm, and store metaverse data. And this blockchain must also be backed by a cryptocurrency.
