The Metaverse – The Next Chapter in the Internet
Using virtual reality headsets and augmented reality, users create 3D virtual worlds. These are called metaverses. These worlds are connected to each other via social networks. In the future, people will be able to interact with each other in the metaverse and do whatever they want.
While the concept is not new, it is gaining more popularity. This is because it could bring a whole new level of digital sociability and increase productivity. It also gives businesses the opportunity to expand their markets.
Some crypto projects have incorporated the idea of a metaverse. They include The Sandbox and RFOX. These projects use blockchain technology to create and distribute digital content.
RFOX aims to be a world leader in immersive technology. Its ecosystem includes gaming, e-commerce, finance and community experiences. It also includes non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are in-game collectibles. NFTs allow users to trade, own, and exchange items.
The Sandbox is a platform that combines virtual worlds with gaming. Its main investor is Yung, the CEO of Animoca Brands, a company that owns and operates CryptoKitties.
The Sandbox’s metaverse runs on the Ethereum blockchain. Its users will be able to explore a new universe and customise their spaceship. They can also join factions and take their experience beyond terrestrial limits.
The Sandbox is supported by tech investors like Index Ventures, a European private equity fund. The most famous investments of Index Ventures are Trello and Revolut.
Zuckerberg’s announcement of the next chapter in the internet, the Metaverse, sparked a new wave of interest in the concept. He spoke at the DealBook Summit in New York. He described the Metaverse as a place that “always exists.” He said it will increase social interaction and cooperation.
